Mission-Critical Teams

Behind every successful analog mission is a coordinated network of specialized teams. From engineering and operations to research, communications, and logistics, our eight interdisciplinary teams work in sync to design, build, and execute Southeast Analog’s mission. Each team plays a mission-critical role in transforming vision into reality.

Research

Lead: Carolyn Conrad

Mission Role:
Designs, implements, and analyzes experiments across multiple scientific disciplines, providing the data and insights that drive Southeast Analog’s mission decisions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct experiments aligned with mission objectives

  • Collect, organize, and analyze scientific data

  • Document results through reports, technical write-ups, and presentations

  • Ensure experimental protocols are accurate, safe, and reproducible

Astronauts

Lead: Kira Argiro

Mission Role:
Recruits, trains, and supports crew members for Southeast Analog’s missions, ensuring each astronaut is prepared, confident, and mission ready.

Core Responsibilities

  • Recruit and onboard analog astronauts for mission participation

  • Coordinate training exercises and readiness evaluations

  • Provide logistical and operational support during mission activities

  • Maintain records of crew readiness, certifications, and assignments

Partnerships & Collaborations

Lead: Katelyn Czarnowski

Mission Role:
Builds and maintains relationships with sponsors, organizations, and research institutions, ensuring Southeast Analog has the strategic connections needed to support and grow its mission.

  • Identify and engage potential partners, sponsors, and collaborators

  • Support internal teams in leveraging partnerships for mission success

  • Track and report partnership outcomes and opportunities

Mission Control Center

Lead: Mya Taheri

Mission Role:
Coordinates mission operations, monitors systems in real time, and manages simulations to ensure smooth and safe execution of Southeast Analog’s missions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Monitor mission systems and telemetry during exercises and simulations

  • Coordinate operations across all SEA teams to ensure mission readiness

  • Simulate real-time scenarios and troubleshoot operational challenges

  • Maintain detailed logs and reports of mission activities

Habitat & Suit Design

Head of Suit Design: Jackie Morales

Head of Habitat Design: Olivia Varghese

Mission Role:
Develops and constructs the mission habitat while designing functional and unique attire for the crew, combining engineering, comfort, and SEA’s signature style.

Core Responsibilities

  • Designing crew attire and suits suitable for mission tasks

  • Ensure safety, functionality, and durability of all designs

  • Collaborate with other teams to integrate habitat and suit systems

  • Manage and maintain habitat equipment and mission gear, ensuring everything is tracked, organized, and ready for use.

Logistics

Lead: Ajira Pandey

Mission Role:
Coordinates resources, scheduling, and operational planning for all phases of Southeast Analog’s mission, ensuring every activity runs smoothly and on time.

  • Plan and manage mission schedules, tasks, and milestones

  • Coordinate resources, supplies, and equipment across teams

  • Monitor budgets and optimize resource allocation

  • Support operational planning and risk management

  • Maintain documentation of logistics and mission workflows

Communications

Lead: Leslie Nava

Mission Role:
Works to amplify Southeast Analog’s mission through storytelling, design, and strategy, ensuring our research, training, and milestones reach students, sponsors, and the wider community.

Core Responsibilities

  • Launch and manage SEA’s digital platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Website)

  • Design posters, merchandise, and visual media that reflect SEA’s identity

  • Produce written and visual content: blog posts, captions, newsletters, and event coverage

  • Track engagement, report insights, and optimize communications strategy

Finance

Lead: Tommy Smith

Mission Role:
Manages Southeast Analog’s financial operations, ensuring all funds are properly tracked, documented, and allocated while maintaining strong relationships with funding sources and keeping our organizations financially sustainable.

Core Responsibilities

  • Track and document Southeast Analog’s income, expenses, and transactions

  • Manage budgets and ensure funds are properly allocated and accounted

  • Coordinate with SEA’s funding sources.

  • Monitor the organization’s financial health and ensure spending stays within budget

  • Mantain accurate financial records and documentation for transparency.

  • Provide financial updates and guidance to team to support responsible decision-making
