MEET Vic

Graduate PhD Student, Aerospace Engineering
Georgia Institute of Technology
From: London, United Kingdom

“I got hooked on space in middle school when my math club teacher took me to a NASA Young Astronauts event and I got to meet an astronaut. That was it. Since then, I've been collecting harsh environments, rescue diver, pilot, zero-G flier, analog astronaut. I have a thing for doing before studying, which is probably why I ended up founding an entire analog mission program instead of just finishing my PhD. Outside of SEA or my PhD, I've directed theatre productions about slaying dragons and raised a guide dog puppy.”

OuR founder.

Vic Paulson founded Southeast Analog with a mission to create opportunities for students to experience space research firsthand, turning ambition into action through real-world simulation and exploration.

Step inside Southeast Analog with Founder & President Vic Paulson. In this 14-minute feature, she shares her journey as a PhD student in Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech and the vision behind building a pioneering, student-led analog mission preparing the next generation of explorers.

Background

Lauren “Vic” Paulson is a third-year PhD student in Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, originally from London. Her interest in space started in middle school after meeting an astronaut at a NASA Young Astronauts event, and Vic has been hooked ever since. Vic tends to learn by doing, which has led her to become a rescue diver, a private pilot with an instrument rating, a zero-gravity flier, and an analog astronaut. That same mindset pushed Vic to found and lead SEA, growing it into a 100+ student program alongside her PhD. Vic work spans electric propulsion certification, lunar resource governance, and non-terrestrial aircraft design, with experience at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Draper, BlackRock, and Open Lunar. Outside of research, she directs theatre, once raised a guide dog puppy, and spends her time flying, diving, running, reading, and making art.
